About Me
Hi! I’m Sherry.
My name is Sherry Adkins and I am a native Hoosier who specializes in the art of pyrography. Pyrography is an ancient art form that uses heat to create designs on wood or other materials. Essentially, it’s like drawing with fire. Each piece is entirely hand made with precision, meticulous detail, and lifelike images of Indiana’s natural life. I add hints of muted color with colored pencil, often layering with more burning over the colored pencil for a more realistic look. My artwork predominantly features wildlife and plant life native to Indiana.
Growing up in the countryside of Indiana, surrounded by fields, forests and wildlife, instilled in me a deep appreciation for nature. Often, I would have a front row seat to the many animals that would wander through the yard, or that I would see while on a hike.
As an adult, I have a sense of peace and a strong connection to God while spending time in nature. I often admire the variety natural details and textures. I believe that’s where I find God the most is in the details. Through the art of pyrography, I push the boundaries of drawing with heat and fire, and reveal an up close, detailed view of the nature that surrounds us. I want my art to convey an appreciation of our wildlife and to bring attention, a sense of peace, maybe even a sense of admiration for our natural world and of the creator.
